Has the BNP benefited from its leader's appearance on BBC's Question Time?

(by Geoff Seeff <geoffseeff@cix.co.uk> on 25th October 2009)

First of all let me say that I am one of those who has gone on record as retracting my former position that the BNP should be proscribed to a postion where I believe that it is actually necessary to allow it airtime so that the deceit on which that organisation has built its electoral success to date can be exposed (see "As I was saying - 4" and Monkhams Focus, Summer 2009). Prior to the broadcast I submitted a letter to the local press offering this opinion but for reasons best known to the editors it was not published - maybe they fear a brick through their windows.

The simple answer to the question is that only time will tell. The BNP has claimed a surge of interest in its activities since the programme as gauged by hits on its website. Of course, web visits could mean anything (for some strange reason this site receives hundreds of visits from as far afeild as China and Saudi Arabia - go figure!") and certainly the party cannot take on new members until it amends its current constitution, declared unlawful by dint of its "whites only" membership base.

Whilst extremely disappointed that the normal format of "Question Time" was not followed, since that would have demonstrated that the BNP has absolutely nothing of value to contribute to the development our country on the matters of immediate concern (eg mail strikes and post office reorganisation, the continuing recession etc), the party leader was shown up to be a bumbling incoherent fool with a set of beliefs that are not encumbered with any supporting evidence. Of themselves, if ever such views were acceptable, they are out of step with world as it is today and are repugnant to all decent citizens .

No, I don't think this was a good advertisement for the BNP and I sincerely hope that the public is offered other opportunities to hear their venomous rehetoric and dangerous policies.
